Google UX Certificate vs Agile Design School

A self-paced course for a monthly fee, or a live course with mentors. When each one makes sense.

Published by Agile Design School · Facts checked 21 October 2026 · 6 min read

If you are deciding between the Google UX Design Certificate and a live course, it helps to know that the two are built very differently. This page explains what you get with each rather than calling one better. Facts about the Google certificate link to Google and Coursera, and we checked them on 21 October 2026.

The short answer

  • The Google certificate is self-paced on Coursera. Ours is a live course with a fixed timetable and mentors.
  • Google costs far less. Its India page lists US$20 a month. Ours is ₹85,000 including GST.
  • With Google, no mentor reviews your work every week. That feedback is most of what a live course charges for.
  • A sensible route is to try the Google course first. If you like the work and want feedback and stronger case studies, join a live course after it.

Side by side

We compare against our Professional Certificate in UX/UI Design, the course closest to theirs. Where a fact was not on their website, the table says so instead of guessing.

Cost

This is the clearest difference. At US$20 a month, six months of the Google certificate costs a small part of our ₹85,000 fee, and you can audit the courses for free. If money is tight, or you are not yet sure UX is for you, that is a strong reason to start with Google.

Live feedback or self-study

In the Google course you watch lessons, do assignments and get comments from other learners. Nobody is assigned to review your work every week, and nobody stops you if your research or your design reasoning has a gap.

In our course, every week includes a 2-hour critique or lab where a mentor goes through your work, and each month ends with a review you must pass before moving on. This is where most of a live course fee goes. Whether it is worth paying for depends on how well you learn on your own.

What your portfolio looks like at the end

Both routes leave you with portfolio projects. In our course you finish five case studies, and each one includes interviews and usability tests with real participants. A mentor checks that your design decisions trace back to that research before you move on.

In interviews for design jobs, you will be asked to walk through your case studies and explain your decisions. So when you compare options, look at what the finished work will look like, not only at the certificate.

Can you do both?

Yes, and it is a sensible order. Start with the Google certificate to learn the basics and see whether you enjoy the work. If you then want feedback on your work, research with real users and a portfolio you can defend in an interview, a live course is the next step. Our shorter UX Research & Design Thinking Foundations course, at ₹45,000, is another way to add live research practice.

Which one should you choose

Choose the Google UX Design Certificate if

  • Your budget is tight, or you want to try UX before paying a larger fee.
  • You learn well on your own and keep to a schedule without a class.
  • You need fully flexible timing because of work or family.

Choose Agile Design School if

  • You want a mentor to review your work every week in a live critique.
  • You want five case studies built on research with real people.
  • You want a fixed timetable, online or at our Hyderabad studio, with other students.
  • You want your portfolio graded by a jury before you start applying.
  • You want lifelong job assistance: daily job openings on our alumni portal and WhatsApp group, and your portfolio shared with partner companies.

Before you pay either school

Ask both schools these questions and get the answers in writing:

  1. Can I sit in on a live class before I enrol?
  2. What is the total fee including GST, and is anything charged later?
  3. How many students will share a mentor in critique sessions?
  4. Can I see two or three portfolios from recent students, and talk to one of them?
  5. How is my work graded, and can an employer verify my certificate?

Frequently asked questions

Is the Google UX Design Certificate worth it in India?
It is good value for learning the basics at a low cost, and you can audit the courses for free. It does not include live feedback from a mentor, so if you can, get your work reviewed by a mentor or a live course before you apply for jobs.
How much does the Google UX Design Certificate cost in India?
It is sold through a Coursera subscription. Google's India page lists US$20 a month after a 7-day free trial, and Coursera estimates about 6 months to finish at around 10 hours a week. Check Coursera for the current rupee price. Financial aid is available.
Will the Google certificate get me a UI UX job?
A certificate alone rarely gets you a design job. Employers look at your portfolio and how you explain your decisions in interviews. The Google course gives you a start on both, and a live course adds weekly feedback and research with real users.
Is the Google certificate better than a live UI UX course?
It is cheaper and more flexible. A live course costs more but gives you a mentor reviewing your work every week, a fixed timetable and projects built with real participants. Choose based on your budget and how well you learn on your own.
Can I join Agile Design School after the Google certificate?
Yes. Tell us in the demo class what you have already covered. The Professional Certificate starts from basics, and the 3-month UX Research and Design Thinking Foundations course is a shorter way to add live research practice.
Can I try a live class first?
Yes. We offer a free 45-minute live demo class, online or at the Yousufguda studio, so you can see what live feedback looks like before you decide.
